Rating of Perceived Exertion Scale - RPE
March 26, 2013

The Physical Activity Line provides physical activity counselling service and resources for practical & trusted physical activity & healthy living information. One such resource is the Borg Rating of Perceived Exertion (RPE) Scale.  This scale will help you estimate how hard you're working.  Perceived exertion is how hard you think your body is exercising.  Ratings on this scale are related to heart rate.
It is important that students understand perceived exertion when exercising and setting fitness goals.  To see the benefits of physical activity and movement we must ensure we are working at a high enough level on the scale.
Another scale from Heart Zones includes a 'talk' indicator on the chart and works on a scale of 1-10. View chart.
