Youth Mentor - Emma Ermine-Stone

Posted: Nov 9, 2021

Hi, my name is Emma Ermine-Stone. I am from Regina, Saskatchewan, I am 16 and currently in grade 11. This is my second year at Scott collegiate, and my first year working with G.Y.M.

I really enjoy anything that involves music, I love traveling, animals, hanging around my little brothers, and going for walks. Lastly, I really enjoy listening to music while reading books online.

One of my biggest challenges is my mental health. I struggle with many things and I don't exactly know how to deal with it, but having time to myself helps or doing something I love helps too. Another big one is not being able to put myself out there. I am a very quiet person and I like being alone.  Being with my sister helps me push through and gets me to do things I never thought I would do, like working with G.Y.M.

A leader to me is someone who knows exactly what to do when there is a problem, or who knows how to get things done.  Leaders know peoples weakness and strengths and they know what to do and what not to do to support others. A leader is someone who is not perfect, and can recognize that. A leader puts their team or others first, who listens to others and takes in other leaders. I am a very honest person, and I recognize my imperfections, but I am always willing to work on anything I need to. I love cooperation and teamwork. I would never consider myself selfish.

G.Y.M to me is a way to get kids moving.  G.Y.M. gets me talking to and playing with young ones which I think is so important.  I love kids and I want to show kids that no matter where they come from, or who they are, doesn't matter.  What really matters is having fun, or seeing kids smile.  I would do anything to see every single kid in this world smile. Most importantly, this is also a chance for me to be a leader or motivator for the kids who want to work in G.Y.M in the future.

My ambition is to go to university and do my generals here, then go into med school so I can become a general surgeon or so I can be anywhere in the medical field even as a veterinarian.

Be yourself, don’t change for anyone, don't be afraid to get out there and do what you like. And don't forget to smile.
