High School Leadership - Brandon

Who Am I: Hi my name is Brandon Starblanket. I am a member of Treaty 6 and my home Reservation is Ahtahkakoop First Nation. Currently I am living in Regina.  I come from a big family of four brothers and three sisters.

Interests: I really enjoy being physically active and enjoy playing many sports with hockey being my favorite.  Travelling is something I also enjoy.

I enjoy school. Everyday I try my best on everything I attempt. My favourite subject is English. I like to read and tell stories, particularly about my hockey career and my experience with travelling.

Current I play hockey with the Regina. Blues .  I am one of the team’s defencemen so the team sometime relies on me, which I really like. Whenever I have spare time I like to go to the outdoor rink and skate with friends and family. I also enjoy teaching young kids how to skate and do new things.

Why Wellness is important: Wellness means a lot.  It helps me achieve things in life that most people think they can't.  Being active and living healthy helps me feel better.  It helps me physically, emotionally, and especially mentally.

G.Y.M.: I have really enjoyed the time I have spent with the youth.  The kids have good laughs and good jokes to tell. The program doesn't only help me here with the kids it also helps me outside with school, hockey, etc. Working with the youth helps me to feel positive about myself.  Not many people my age get a chance to do what I do. I get to help the next generation of kids. I am really looking forward to being a part of this program again next year.

G.Y.M. is important to urban aboriginal youth.  The youth can be physically active and live a healthy life style. We always encourage the youth to try their best and to never give up on set goals.  The program works to develop respectful, caring kids. G.Y.M also helps the kids meet new people and make new friends.

My future:  I see myself playing in the National Hockey League with the Chicago Blackhawks, living on my own somewhere close to family and friends. If not the NHL, I would like to go to university to become a lawyer.

Wise words for the youth:  " You kids are awesome and I like how you never give up."
